This week our unit study is based off the book “Feathers for Lunch.” It is a cute book about a cat who escapes his house and sees all different kinds of birds that he would like to eat but cannot catch.
We made our own bird book and binoculars. Then we went for a walk around the neighborhood to see what birds there were. Mostly robins and sparrows but we were also delighted to see a black-capped chickadee. In the early evening about one hundred (no joke!) grackles landed in our neighbor’s yard so we were able to observe them for a little while before they took off for the trees.
It will be fun to see how long it takes us to find all the birds in our books. I only picked ones that are common to our area (17 I think), plus blank pages for other birds (like that chickadee).
